FEATURES:
The Fanuc 16/160/160i-SB1 series control units are divided into two types: the LCD-mounted type and stand-alone type. LCD-mounted type control units have a built-in display. Stand-alone type control units have a separate display unit.

FANUC Series 16i/16i of stand–alone type is equipped with a 7–segment LED, rotary switch, and push switch. When no CRT/MDI is included in the system configuration or when the CRT/MDI becomes defective and cannot be used, battery backed–up data can be saved and restored by using the rotary switch and push switch. When the CRT/MDI can be used, use these switches for maintenance of the boot function.

The control unit is equipped with a fan motor. Air is fed into the bottom of the unit and output from the fan motor mounted on the top of the unit.

The FANUC Series 16i, 160i, are super–compact ultra–thin CNC models with built–in liquid crystal displays. Each CNC unit is a mere 60 mm deep and features, immediately behind the liquid crystal display, a small CNC printed circuit board developed by utilizing state–of–the–art LSI and surface–mount technologies. Super–compact ultra–thin open CNC models are also available. The CNC printed circuit board incorporates PC functions that are fully compatible with the IBM PC(*). The amount of cabling in the electrical unit of the machine can be significantly reduced by using a high–speed serial servo bus, which connects the CNC control unit and multiple servo amplifiers by a single optical fiber cable. Another innovation which simplifies the electrical unit of the machine tool is the use of compact distributed I/O modules, which can be separately mounted on the machine operator’s panel and control panel.

The number of all controlled axes is the sum of the number of machine controlled axes and the number of loader controlled axes. The machine controlled axes include Cs axis.

FANUC thus recommends that the battery be replaced periodically, once a year, regardless of whether a battery alarm is issued. The following two kinds of batteries can be used.

• Lithium battery built into the CNC control unit.

• Two alkaline dry cells (size D) in the external battery case.

HIGHLIGHTS.
The control unit is equipped with a fan motor.

Air is fed into the bottom of the unit and output from the fan motor

mounted on the top of the unit.Also, adequate service access space is required in front of and at the top of the unit so that printed circuit boards and the fan motor can be replaced easily if necessary.

There is a spare connector located at the far end (at middle height) on the

right side of the control unit. This connector is used for controller testing

and other purposes. Therefore, connector is required All the stand–alone type control units of the Series,16/160i are designed to connect an intelligent terminal by inserting an HSSB interface board into a mini slot. These control units are the same as those of the Series16i.
